What kind of gear do you use.
I have a Canon Rebel and use Tokina Pro lenes
for a film camera I have an old Canon 10s works good has lots of features.
just starting to put together some lighting gear one Alien Bee 800,
portable background set up, and a Dynatran reflector set up bought on ebay.

I have a Canon EOS 350D and a 300D as backup body. I use a 420EX flash and my go-to lens is usually either the 17-85mm IS or the 35mm f2.0. I use AlienBees strobes (1 800W/s and 3 400W/s) with PocketWizard triggers and a Minolta IVF exposure meter. I use various modifiers with my strobes, usually a large softbox on the main and a smaller one on the fill with brollies for the background lights. I do my prints on an Epson Stylus Photo 2200, typically on Enhanced Matte or Brilliant Watercolor paper. I have the Calumet Heavy-Duty portable background system, which I typically use with 9' seamless. I also have several muslins my wife made for me.

My sister has the Sony 828, which IIRC is the successor to the 717, and it seems like a pretty spiffy camera.

I take it the "Pornographer's Special" appellation comes from its zero-light focusing ability?

I think I just learned more about my sister than I wanted to know.

that and it's fabulous oversaturation of reds, making dsl's stick out nice and shiny :)

Not talking about your internet connection here kids....

The flash also blows out any inperfections which can be nice if you think your model needs a nose job or has bad skin.

I use a Canon 20D with either a 24-70 f/2.8L or a 70-200 f/4L. I use a 580EX on camera and fotodiox strobes in my studio. I have the strobes on a wireless system cuz I hate cords. I use a Polaris light meter which has been a big help.

I'm pretty comfortable with the camera but I know I need a lot of work with lighting. I just switched from hot lights to the strobes and it's been awesome. I try not to Photoshop if at all possible for anything other than cropping or cloning out stands or whatever. I just really like pics that are as close to reality as possible. I think I'm in the minority on that since it seems more and more people just take any pictures and Photoshop the crap out of them.

I'm done buying gear until my 20D craps out so I just try to shoot everyday and play with the settings on the camera and on the lights. I talk with a lot of old school photogs and they have all said that if a day passes without learning something new then they must not have been shooting that day.
